Ilgu Ozler, professor of political science at SUNY New Paltz, has been elected to serve for her second term on the board of directors for Amnesty International of the United States of America, where she will have opportunities to lend expertise on international issues to the world’s largest and most influential human rights organizations.

Ozler’s board membership extends her working relationship with Amnesty International, which began nearly 20 years ago with service as a faculty advisor, before starting the local Mid-Hudson Valley chapter.

“My professional expertise, including my experience with Amnesty International, and lifelong commitment to human rights make me uniquely qualified to help guide this organization,” said Ozler. “I am honored to continue working with them on growing violations of human rights resulting from socio-economic inequalities, climate change and new technologies.”

Ozler is the founder and director of the SUNY Global Engagement Program, a full-semester internship experience that enables students to immerse themselves in real-world global affairs conducted in New York City and is a leading scholar and educator in the University’s Department of Political Science & International Relations.

For her stewardship of the GEP and other activities in and out of the classroom, Ozler has been recognized with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service and a Fulbright scholarship, among other accolades.
