Women’s Basketball Falls to Cortland

CORTLAND, NY- The New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to the Red Dragons of Cortland 87-60 Tuesday night. The Hawks forced 23 turnovers, but the Hawks could not rebound from cold shooting night. The Hawks fall to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC and return to the court Friday at 6 p.m. against Buffalo State in the Hawk Center.

Senior Kristen Caban led the Hawks with nine points and senior Nicole Sarcone chipped in with eight points, a game-high seven assists and three steals. Senior Carly Minehan added eight points and four rebounds and freshman Maliqua Fisher had seven points, five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Caitlin Irwin had seven points, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Jessica Laing led the Red Dragons with a double-double, 25 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of 13 shooting and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Micki Volpini added 25 points, six rebounds and five steals and Mary Bruns chipped in with 11 points and nine points. Jennifer Patten had nine points to help the Red Dragons improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC.
