NEW PALTZ – Ronald Law was recently appointed to the College Council at the State University of New York at New Paltz by Governor David Paterson.
The Bronx resident is a 1974 graduate of the college’s political science department. Law attended Boston University’s School of Public Communications and graduated from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 1981.
Since 1976, Law has held key positions in city, state and federal government, which includes service to two governors, a U.S. senator and a New York City mayor. Today, Law is the director of intergovernmental relations for MetroPlus Health Plan, a subsidiary of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
College President Steven Poskanzer said, “Since his days as a memorable student body president at the college, through his leaderships in the halls of New York’s government, through his committed service on our Foundation Board, and now through his role as the newest member of our College Council, Ron Law has been an exceptional, wise and stalwart friend of this institution.”
SUNY College Councils are established, described and governed by the provisions of Article 8, Section 356 of the New York State Education Law. Each state-operated campus has such a council. Each council consists of 10 members – nine appointed by the governor and one elected by and from the students on the campus. The governor designates one member as chair. Council members are appointed to seven-year terms by the governor. The councils work with college administrations to develop and foster strong relationships between their institutions and local communities and promote campus and university interests.
