Women’s Soccer Falls to Geneseo 2-1 in SUNYAC Quarterfinals

The fifth seeded New Paltz women’s soccer team traveled to #4 Geneseo for the SUNYAC quarterfinal and fell to the Knights 2-1. The Hawks end their season 10-8-1.

New Paltz senior Jennifer Anselmi blasted a shot from 14 yards out at 48:18, that Geneseo keeper Katie Clerkin knocked away. New Paltz broke the scoreless tie in the 50th minute when Elana Jaroff recieved ball from the left corner of the field by Emily Buckner. Jaroff one touched the ball into the lower right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Twenty minutes later Geneseo netted the equalizer when Katie Price collected a deflection and took a one time shot from the 18. At 75:19, the Knights tallied the game winner when Melissa Beale crossed the ball at the top of the box to Nicole Cortese who found the back of the net.

New Paltz had one final shot to try and tie the game when Kate Addiss missed wide right. New Paltz out shot Geneseo 8-6, with Geneseo holding a slight 8-7 advantage on corners.

Senior Sarah Boccard made two saves for the Hawks. Geneseo will take on top-seeded Oneonta in the semifinals on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hall of Fame Fields in Oneonta, N.Y.
