Everton H. Henriques, the chairman of the State University of New York at New Paltz Foundation Board, will receive the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Mid Hudson Valley Chapter Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon at noon on Friday, Nov. 14, at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor.
This event acknowledges philanthropists, volunteers, corporations and fundraisers who have made significant contributions to the community.
Sally Cross, director of Development at SUNY New Paltz, said that Henriques’ energy and dedication to philanthropy – helping others through both giving and getting – is inspiring and contagious.
“Everton is a dual-degree graduate of SUNY New Paltz, and as a non-traditional student working his way through college, a scholarship made it possible for him to complete his degree,” said Cross. “It also inspired in him a lifelong desire to give back – most generously – to his alma mater and community.”
Henriques is the co-founder of Plasmaco, now known as Panasonic Plasma Display Laboratory of America, Inc., where he now serves as the vice president. In addition to serving as chairman of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation board, he has served as a volunteer in leadership positions, including previous service as president of the Highland Rotary Club and co-founder and past president of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Association, and president of the George Washingon Carver Foundation. He was also a member of the Ulster County Charter Commission, and a past director of the Southern Ulster Chamber of Commerce. Henriques also served on the Town of Lloyd Economic Development Committee, and serves on the Water and Sewer committee.
Henriques has been a tireless fundraiser and donor at the SUNY New Paltz Foundation, establishing a total of seven scholarship funds in honor of members of his family and his mentors. He actively solicits on behalf of these funds and other causes, inspiring many to follow his example and give generously, said Cross.
