Volleyball Falls to Fredonia in Title Match

The women’s volleyball team fell to Fredonia in the SUNYAC title match 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18). Fredonia earns the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament, while New Paltz stands at 29-9 on the season and awaits a possible at-large bid.

Junior Brittany Coyle finished with eight kills and three blocks and first year Melinda DiGiovanna chipped in with seven kills and 17 digs. Junior Stephanie Bova handed out 25 assists. Coyle and DiGiovanna were each named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament.

Game one was a hard fought battle that saw the Blue Devils edge New Paltz 26-24. The game was tied 17-17 before Fredonia completed their six point run to take the 21-17 lead. The Hawks tied the game at 22 all and again at 24 before Fredonia tallied the final two points.

Game two was tied eight times with the final one coming at 15-15. Fredonia then took control and knocked off the next 10 points for the 25-15 final.

Fredonia took an early 9-2 lead in the third game and it was just too much for the Hawks to overcome. New Paltz come to within five points several times but could not come any closer as Fredonia went on to win the third set 25-18.
