Swimming Sweeps Oneonta

The men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Oneonta Friday afternoon and swept the Red Dragons. The women’s team won 129-71, while the men won 115-63.

Sophomore Jessica Lester led the Hawks winning two individual events and an exhibition relay. Lester captured the 200 free (2:00.61) and the 200 back (2:16.77) while teaming with Allison Wells, Lauren DooLittle and Samantha Graham to touch first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.09). Senior Joelle Hopf won the 400 IM (4:57.65) and Tiffany Sorrell touched first in the 100 free (57.10). Hopf and Sorrell teamed with Erica Ellis and Graham to win the 400-medley relay in 4:13.11. Doolittle captured the 1000 free (11:38.07), Wells won the 50 free (26.18), Amanda Cloer finished first in the 200 fly (2:24.75) and Marissa Morris won the 500 free (5:29.79). Ellis posted the fastest time as she exhibitioned the 200 breast (2:36.64).

The men won five individual events, one exhibition event, and one relay. Senior Stefan Crain claimed the 1000 free (10:56.72), Matt Demerest led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free (51.42) and sophomore Rob Webb touched first in the 400 IM (4:36.97). Sophomore Dave Gardner captured the 50 free (22.63), first year Jesse Sweeney won the 200 back (2:04.60), Marc Battisti claimed the 500 free (5:07.06) and Eric LeClaire posted the fast time in the 200 breast that was exhibitioned (2:30.17). Demerest and Sweeney teamed up with Stephen Cozzolongo and Billy Papetti to win the 400 medley relay in 3:50.55.

Both teams will return to action on Saturday November 8th when they travel to the Coast Guard Academy for a 1pm meet.
