Swimming Splits with Coast Guard

The men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to the United States Coast Guard Academy for their fourth swim meet in the last eight days. The women won 144-118, while the men lost 143-113. The women improve to 3-0 in dual meet competition and the men drop to 1-2.

Seniors Joelle Hopf and Erica Ellis led the women, each winning two individual events. Hopf touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.95) and 200 breaststroke (2:28.96).
Ellis finished first in the 200 fly (2:20.00) and led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 IM (2:17.46). Hopf took second (2:21.37) and Tiffany Sorrell touched third (2:24.32). Ellis teamed with Sorrell, Becky Baker and Christine Rieth to win the 200 medley relay in 1:55.53. The women went 1-2-3 in the 200 backstroke led by Marissa Morris in 2:20.49. Tiffany Sorrell touched second (2:23.25) and Megan Gordon took third (2:25.11). Sophomore Jessica Lester claimed the 500 free in 5:21.43.

Junior Stephen Cozzolongo and sophomore Rob Webb were the lone winners for the men. Cozzolonogo claimed the 100 backstroke (54.72) and Webb won the 200 IM (2:06.13). First year Pete Nastasi placed second in the 1000 free (10:10.76) and the 500 free (4:58.79).

The men and women will return to the pool on Saturday November 15th when they travel to Rowan University.
