New Paltz women’s soccer cruises to a 5-0 victory over Potsdam

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team cruised a to 5-0 victory over Potsdam, Saturday afternoon.

Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland) opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Elana Jaroff (Old Westbury, NY/The Wheatley School) caused a turnover and found Anselmi for the goal.

In the 30th minute, Danielle Sawicki (Garden City, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial) scored her first colligate goal when Kelly Gorton (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) headed it to Sawicki for the goal and a 2-0 lead.

Gorton tallied her second assist on the day when she found Tanya Todoric (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) for her first goal of the season and the 3-0 lead.

In the 57th minute, senior Rachel Vanni (Haskell, NJ/Lakeland Regional) tallied her first goal of the season off a cross from Emily Buckner (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush).

In the 77th minute, Gorton added a goal with her two assists on the day, when junior Rebecca Kafko (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) sent a through ball to Gorton for the 5-0 lead.

Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) made one save in 75:38 minutes in the win and Danielle Gura (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) made two saves in 14:22 minutes. SUNY New Paltz improves to 7-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in SUNYAC competition.

Sarah Casey made four saves in the loss and Potsdam falls to 7-5-1 overall and 0-5-1 in SUNYAC competition.

SUNY New Paltz returns to the field Saturday at 1 p.m. at Morrisville State College.
