Women’s Basketball Stays Undefeated at Home

NEW PALTZ, NY — The women’s basketball team remained perfect at 9-0 on their home court as they defeated SUNYIT this afternoon 83-64 in a conference match-up for their sixth straight win. The win advances the Hawks to 16-5 on the season and 10-3 in SUNYAC, tying the school record for most conference wins, which they set last season.
SUNYIT led by as many as many as seven in the first half at 27-20 with 8:54 on the clock. New Paltz took their first lead of the game at 31-30 on a three pointer by Kristen Caban at 6:18. The Wildcats retook the lead at 4:50 on a jump shot en route to the 40-36 intermission score. In the second half, the game was tied at 47-47 before the Hawks used a 21-3 streak to open the game.
Sophomore Maggie Farrell led the Hawks with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Caban finished with 14 points on 4-5 from the arc and 2-2 from the line. Senior Amber Sohns added 14 points and grabbed a game high nine boards. First year Artie Williams scored eight points and hauled down eight rebounds.
New Paltz will return to the court on Tuesday when they host Baruch at 5:30 pm.
