Men’s Basketball Drops 65-48 Decision to Cortland

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s basketball team hosted Cortland tonight and fell to the Red Dragons 65-48. Kyle Nelson led the Hawks with a game high 22 points on 9-12 from the floor and 4-6 from the line. Senior Victor Alvarez chipped in with eight points and Lee Bertram grabbed a team high six rebounds.
Cortland led 22-10 eight minutes into the game. New Paltz got back within 22-14 with 10:43 before a 14-0 Red Dragon streak pushed the lead to 22 points with 2:29 left. The Hawks came back with a 9-0 run on five points from Alvarez and four by Nelson to get within 36-23 with 38 seconds left in the half. Niehoff drained a three pointer at the buzzer, however, to push the lead to 16 points and the Red Dragons kept the lead to 16 points and the Red Dragons kept the lead between 11 and 19 points the entire second half.
New Paltz returns to the court tomorrow when they host SUNYIT at 4:00 pm.
