Women’s Swimming Takes Second at RPI Invite

TROY, NY — The women’s swim team competed in the RPI Invite this afternoon and finished second out of six teams. New Paltz totaled 587 points to finished behind Cortland’s 602 points.
The 400 medley relay team of Michelle Coombs, Becky Baker, Erica Ellis and Christine Rieth won in 4:05.25, eight whole seconds ahead of the second place team. New Paltz took first, third and fourth in the 1000 free led by sophomore Melinda Pullen (11:04.31). Jessica Lester took third (11:18.18) and Chrissy Corrigan finished fourth (11:29.15). Pullen and Lester finished 1-2 in the 500 free in 5:26.96 and 5:28.68, respectively. New Paltz swept the 100 free, led by Coombs (53.57), Rieth (55.28) and Allison Wells (55.57). Coombs also won the 50 free (24.78) and Rieth took second (25.38). Marissa Morris won the 200 free (2:00.42) and Wells touched second (2:02.42). Ellis won the 200 IM (2:18.60) and took third in the 200 fly (2:19.82). Tiffany Sorrell took third in the 200 IM (2:20.61) and teamed up with Wells, Morris and Brittany Berrus to win the 400 free relay (3:43.77).
The swim teams finishes their regular season schedule next Saturday, January 26th at Cortland at 1:00 pm.
