2007 Men’s Soccer Recap

NEW PALTZ, NY — The 2007 men’s soccer season was a rebuilding one for the Hawks. With new head coach Eric Watson implementing in a new system, and a band of young players, the team spent most of the season building on experience. They finished the season with an overall record of 3-12-2 and a SUNYAC record 3-6-2. The team had just one senior on their roster, the rest were mostly underclassmen of which seven were freshman. The lone senior Justin Thompson led the team with three goals and three assists on the season. Sophomore defender Anton Shipman and sophomore midfielder Sean Reminick both finished the season with three goals each. The biggest moment of the season by far, was a 2-0 shutout over a talented Brockport team who placed fourth in the SUNYAC standings. The 2-0 victory was the Hawks first win of the season. Junior goalkeeper Mike Judge recorded his first career shutout with seven saves as the Hawks defeated Brockport for the first time since 2001. After beginning the season 0-9, the team finished strong in their final eight games finishing with a 3-3-2 record. Overall the team finished in eighth place in the SUNYAC conference.
