Women’s Volleyball Defeats Union and Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The women’s volleyball claimed two victories in day one of the Vassar Invitational. The Hawks defeated Union 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-16) in the first match. Senior Kim Braga led the attack with 10 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Brittany Coyle finished with eight kills, three blocks and setter Katie Becofsky dished out 26 assists and collected 10 digs. Junior Samantha Prudente tallied 14 digs.
New Paltz faced Vassar in the night cap and won 3-1 (28-30, 30-26, 30-20, 30-27). Prudente paced the offense with 13 kills and 19 digs and Braga finished with 14 kills. Becofsky handed out 44 assists and junior Nicole Mercadante collected 20 digs.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow morning when they play St. Joseph’s at 10 am, followed by Skidmore at 2 pm.
