Women’s Volleyball Finished in Third Place at FDU-Madison

MADISON, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team competed in the Fairleigh Dickinson at Madison Tournament. The Hawks finished in third place going 3-1 over the weekend. Senior Kate Roche (Patchogue, NY) was named to the All Tournament team for her performance.
On Friday, October 6th the Hawks went 1-1. In the first match of the evening New Paltz fell to New Jersey City 3-0 (30-22, 33-31, 30-21). Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY) led the Hawks with four kills on seven attempts. Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) dished out 26 assists while Nicole Mercadante (Baldwinsville, NY) finished with 20 digs.
In the second game, New Paltz defeated St. Joseph’s 30-16, 30-18, 30-25. Roche collected eight kills, eight blocks and Samantha Prudente (Huntington Station, NY) finished with eight kills and seven digs. Becofsky handed out 32 assists and Mercadante added 22 digs.
On Saturday, New Paltz downed Russell Sage 30-27, 30-24, 30-28. Kim Braga and Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) lead the way with 11 kills each. Prudente finished with 10 kills and 20 digs. Franchesca Rodriguez (Schenectady, NY) chipped in with 16 digs and Becofsky dished out 44 assists.
New Paltz faced Fairleigh Dickinson in the third place match and won 3-1 (30-28, 30-21, 27-30, 30-17). Braga capped off the weekend with 17 kills and three blocks. Clouston added 13 kills and 25 digs for the Hawks. Roche totaled 12 kills and six blocks while Becofsky finished with 54 assists.
New Paltz will return to action on Wednesday, October 11 when they travel to NYU.
