Tennis Claims 2006 SUNYAC Championship, Rob Bruley Named Coach of the Year

MANLIUS, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks claimed the 2006 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tennis Championship held this weekend in Manlius, NY. The Hawks claimed four of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles flights on the way to winning their second championship in five years. Head Coach Rob Bruley was named the 2006 Coach of the Year after guiding his team to the Championship title.
New Paltz finished with 31 points as Geneseo was second with 25 points.
New Paltz’s Dana Lim was the number two seed in the first singles flight and successfully defeated Nicole Lindell of Oneonta in the finals, 6-2, 6-4. This is the second individual SUNYAC crown for Lim as she won second singles in 2005. Eri Yamakawa won the second singles crown by beating Kristen Greiner of Geneseo 6-2, 6-3.
Senior Jennifer Larson kept her unbeaten streak at fourth singles intact with a 6-0, 6-1 showing against Zirka Markewycz of Oneonta. The sixth singles flight saw first year Kerri Serkes defeat Lauren Eichenauer of Geneseo 6-1, 6-2.
Katherine Ketigian advanced to the finals in fifth singles where she lost to Anna Lehet of Geneseo 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
In doubles Lim and Yamakawa lost to Greiner and Feickert of Geneseo in the semifinals of first doubles 6-2, 6-4. In number two doubles Ketigian and Larson defeated Kuroski and Markewycz of Oneonta in the semifinals 6-0, 6-2 and went on to defeat Cheung and Pumple of Geneseo in the finals 6-4, 6-4. Liz Beirne and Lyndsey Lovinger defeated Engel and Sacca of Fredonia 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals. In the finals they battled to 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Cornwall and Lehet of Geneseo.
