Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Day One of the SUNYAC/Liberty League Challenge

SCHENECTADY, NY — SUNY New Paltz travelled to Union College for the 2006 Liberty League/SUNYAC Volleyball Challenge.

Friday at 4 p.m. the fourth ranked regional Hawks faced the host Dutchwomen and fell in a hard fought five game match. New Paltz claimed game one (30-24) and three (30-24) while Union took game two (30-18), four (31-29) and five (18-16). Stephanie Bova (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) led New Paltz with 37 assists and 12 digs, while senior Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had a match high 32 digs. Franchesca Rodriguez (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) added 20 kills and 12 digs for New Paltz.
In the nightcap New Paltz defeated Clarkson 30-17, 30-27, 30-25. Bova compiled 46 assists as New Paltz improved to 19-6 with the three game sweep. Clouston had 16 kills and made 15 digs and Rodriguez added 13 digs while finishing the match with 12 kills.
The Hawks will face Skidmore at noon on Saturday.
