Men’s Soccer Blanked by Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team took on the defending State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Champions, the Plattsburgh Cardinals, Saturday afternoon and were blanked 5-0.
Plattsburgh’s Dave Widenmaier scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the Cardinals. Plattsburgh improves to 9-2-2 overall, including a 4-2 mark in the State University of New York Athletic Conference men’s soccer standings. The Hawks fall to 2-10-1 and 0-7-1 in the league.
Danny Faiella, Ryan Forsberg and Brandon Gilkes also scored for Plattsburgh, which has not allowed a goal in six home games (5-0-1) this season, covering 560 minutes.
The Hawks had eight shots, including two each by Daniel Cocciardi (Stormville, NY/John Jay) and Frank Gurreri (Fishkill, NY/John Jay).
John San Filippo (4 saves) and Ryan Toale (1) combined in goal for the Cardinals’ ninth shutout overall and fourth in a row. Jeffery Dudley (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) allowed four goals and made four saves in 58:27, while Masanori Hotta (Kawanishi, Japan) stopped four shots and allowed one goal for the Hawks.
