Late Goal Lifts New Paltz Over Elmira, 3-2

ELMIRA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team traveled to Elmira on Sunday afternoon to take on the Soaring Eagles in a non-conference match-up. The Hawks advanced to 5-10 overall with a 3-2 win.

Junior Ashley Smith put the Hawks on the board first, five minutes into the second half of play on an unassisted goal. Seven minutes later Smith extened the lead to 2-0 off a pass from Jacqueline Sisco. The Soaring Eagles were quick to react and the tie the game at 2-2 with tallies from Jackie Thomas and Chelea Jipner. Kayla Blank was credited with the assist on both.

Sisco tallied the game winning goal with 2:41 remaining. Nicole Kovac earned the win in nets with seven saves and saw a total of 17 shots from Elmira’s offense. Ann Phillips came up with 12 saves in the match and faced a total of 15 shots from the Hawks.

The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday October 25th when they take on the Stevens Ducks at 7 p.m. at Dietz Stadium.
