Field Hockey Claims First SUNYAC Win of the Season

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team hosted the Oswego Lakers Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY. The Hawks claimed their first SUNYAC win of the 2006 campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Lakers.
The Hawks got on the board in the 19th minute of the game when Jacqueline Sisco (Wappingers Falls, NY/John Jay) took a penalty corner. The ball was fed into the circle where a scramble in front of the net occurred. Junior Kaitlin Ruggiero (Carmel, NY/Carmel) came away with the last tap at the ball which found the back of the cage for the 1-0 lead, which would prove to be the game winner.
New Paltz held a 9-3 penalty corner advantage while taking seven shots to Oswego’s nine. Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) posted seven saves in net as the Hawks advance to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC play. Kaitlin Daniels finished with four saves for the Lakers.
The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, October 11 when they host Western Connecticut at 7 p.m. at the Sports Dome.
