GENEVA, NY — Sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY), freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY), and sophomore Jodie Brenner (Plainview, NY) each advanced to the second day of singles competition at the William Smith Tournament.
In A flight singles Yamakawa defeated freshman Kathleen Rucci (Schenectady, NY) of Union 8-4, before scoring an 8-6 win over junior Krissy Feikert (North Syracuse, NY) of Geneseo in the second round. Lim, also in A flight singles, topped sophomore Tara Ware (Avon, CT) of William Smith 8-6. Lim advances to the second round with the win after a first round bye. In C flight Singles, Brenner advanced to the second day of competition. Brenner defeated junior Angie Bermudez (Hilton, NY) of Brockport 8-3 and sophomore Lauren Eichenauer (Rush Henrietta, NY) of Geneseo, 8-6.
In B flight singles, sophomore Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) made a second round appearance defeating junior Kelly Fitzpatrick (Poughkeepsie, NY), of Union, 8-4. Larson fell in the second round to sophomore Erinn Cain (Palmyra, NY) of William Smith, 9-7. Freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) lost 8-0 in the first round to sophomore Cory Turner (Ridgefield, CT) of William Smith.
In C flight singles, freshman Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) joined Brenner in the second round with a 9-8 victory over freshman Natalie Jenereski (Butler, PA), of Ithaca. Trifiletti, however, fell to sophomore Katie Campbell (Wincester, MA), of William Smith, in the second round 8-5.
All three of the Hawks’ doubles pairings advanced to the finals of their respective brackets. Lim and Yamakawa defeated sophomore Jessica Meola (Hartsdale, NY) and freshman Brittany Miller (Scituate, MA) of Union 8-4 to enter the A Flight Doubles Final against freshman Chelsea Rauck (Bexley, OH) and Ware of William Smith. Lim and Yamakawa had a first round bye.
In B Flight Doubles, Ketigian and Larson topped Fitzpatrick and Rucci of Union 8-6, before defeating senior Katie Dempsey (Baltimore, MD) and junior Melissa Walsh (Lake Ariel, PA) of Ithaca 9-7. Ketigian and Larson will play freshman Meg Cole (Homer, NY) and senior Meredith McCaslin (Babylon, NY) of Cortland in the B Flight Doubles Final.
Sisters Lindsay and freshman Ashely Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) also advanced to finals competition with two victories in C Flight Doubles. Ashley and Lindsay won 8-4 over Eichenauer and sophomore Maureen Peer (Spencerport, NY) of Geneseo in the first round, and freshmen Michelle Duffy (Cazenovia, NY) and Hayley Plas (Cheshire, CT) of Ithaca in the second round. The sisters will take on Cain and junior Meghan Kelly (Norwell, MA) of William Smith in tomorrow’s C Flight Doubles Final.
