Women’s Tennis Takes Home Three Titles From William Smith

GENEVA, NY — Freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) set the tone for SUNY New Paltz at the William Smith Tournament this afternoon, taking A Flight Singles 6-4, 6-3 over freshman Chelsea Rauck (Bexley, OH) of William Smith. The Hawks also took first in A and B Flight Doubles. Lim and sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) topped Rauck and sophomore Tara Ware (Avon, CT) 8-6 for the A Flight Doubles crown, as freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) and sophomore Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) cruised to an 8-0 win in the B Flight Doubles Final over freshman Meg Cole (Homer, NY) and senior Meredith McCaslin (Babylon, NY) of Cortland.

The Hawks contended in two of three singles finals in this afternoon’s competition at the William Smith Tournament. Yamakawa fell to Rauck 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals of the A Flight Singles. Lim defeated junior Amanda Husson (Middletown, NY) of Cortland 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the finals against Rauck. Lim defeated Rauck 6-4, 6-3, who was regionally ranked fifth, in the A Flight Singles Final.

In C Flight Singles, sophomore Jodie Brenner (Plainview, NY) competed in the finals against sophomore Katie Campbell (Wincester, MA) of William Smith. Brenner won a close semifinals match 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 over senior Heidi Ambrozaitis (Manchester, VT) of William Smith to reach the finals against Campbell. Brenner fell to Campbell, 6-3, 6-0.

SUNY New Paltz earned titles in both A Flight and B Flight Doubles play. Lim and Yamakawa posted an 8-6 victory over Rauck and Ware in the A Flight Doubles Final, while Ketigian and Larson shut out Cole and McCaslin 8-0 in the B Flight Doubles Final. Freshmen sisters, Ashley and Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) fell in the C Flight Doubles Final to sophomore Erinn Cain (Palmyra, NY) and junior Meghan Kelley (Norwell, MA), of William Smith, 8-3.

The Hawks competed in five out of six finals at the 2006 William Smith Tournament, winning three titles. SUNY New Paltz played in three finals competitions at the 2005 William Smith tournament, but came away empty handed.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will host Plattsburgh, RPI, Rutgers, Oneonta, and Union in the New Paltz Tournament on Saturday, April 29.
