Red Dragons Hold Softball Scoreless in Doubleheader

NEW PALTZ, NY — The Hawks were held scoreless in both games of this afternoon’s doubleheader against conference rival, Cortland. The Red Dragons took the first game 10-0 and the second game 6-0. SUNY New Paltz has failed to score in its last four State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competitions.

Senior pitcher Stephanie Adamshick (Milton, NY) held SUNY New Paltz (15-16, 5-10) to three hits to earn her 11th win of 2006. Junior catcher Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY), sophomore outfielder Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) and senior third baseman Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY) recorded the Hawks’ hits. Adamshick walked two and struck out one in six innings.

Sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) worked six innings, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits, while walking five and striking out three. Junior shortstop Jamie Neuner (Brewster, NY) led the Red Dragons with three hits in three plate appearances, as sophomore first baseman Shara Evanter (Commack, NY) and junior catcher Blythe Beecher (Corning, NY) totaled two hits apiece.

Sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) pitched a strong outing in game two, allowing one earned run on nine hits. Cortland (24-8, 14-2) grabbed two unearned runs in the first, but did not score again until the fourth, as O’Hea kept the Red Dragons within range. SUNY New Paltz, however, continued to struggle at the plate, totaling three hits in the affair. Sophomore outfielder Joelle VonBischoffshausen (North Brunswick, NJ), freshman outfielder Gina Morano (Shirley, NY) and senior second baseman Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) recorded the only hits for the Hawks.

Neuner went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI for Cortland. Junior third baseman Megan Dore (Staatsburgh, NY) also recorded two hits, as junior pitcher Ang D’Amboise (Ballston Lake, NY) allowed one hit, while walking one and striking out seven in six innings of work to earn the win.

The SUNY New Paltz softball team will host Oswego in a SUNYAC doubleheader on Sunday, April 23, at 2:00 pm.
