SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Day One at Endicott

BEVERLY, MA — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team swept their first two matches of the day at the Endicott March Mania Invitational. The Hawks defeated Villia Julie 3-1 (30-18, 30-23, 26-30, 30-20) and MIT 3-2 (30-28, 25-30, 30-28, 24-30, 15-11) to win pool C.

In the 1:00 pm match SUNY New Paltz (17-7) defeated Villa Julie (8-5) in four games, 3-1. The Hawks took the first game 30-18, and the second 30-23. Villa Julie came back to win the third game 26-30, but the Hawks rallied to win the next game 30-20. Junior outside hitter Jeff Lee (Clifton Park, NY) and freshman opposite Jason Chandler (Spencerport, NY) recorded 11 kills and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore libero Pedro Medina (Brentwood, NY) had 15 digs and freshman setter Matt Weingarten (East Moriches, NY) made 43 assists.

The Hawks continued to dominate in their 5:00 pm match against MIT (17-5) winning with a score of 3-2. SUNY New Paltz won the first game 30-28, lost the second 25-30, won the third 30-28, lost the fourth 24-30 and won the fifth 15-11. Weingarten recorded 55 assists. Senior outside hitter Jamie Kellogg (Scio, NY) had 13 kills. Senior opposite Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) had 20 kills leading SUNY New Paltz to a first place finish in pool C.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team will take on Rivier, who won pool B, in a 12:00 pm match at the Endicott March Mania Invitational.
