SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Drops Second Straight

PURCHASE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team lost 76-58 to Manhattanville this afternoon. With their second straight loss the Hawks fall to 4-6 on the year.

SUNY New Paltz (4-6) entered halftime down 36-28. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) and senior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) led the Hawks in the first half with eight points apiece, Crichlow added four rebounds. Junior forward John DiBetta (Valhalla, NY) paced Manhattanville (7-5) with seven points and six rebounds, while senior center Jerry Fiefie (Stamford, CT) grabbed six rebounds of his own and pitched in five points.

The seven-point lead held by the Valiants at halftime was as close as the Hawks would get this afternoon. Manhattanville pushed their lead to as much as 27 points with 6:52 remaining, 66-39. The Hawks managed to cut the Valiants lead 16, but came up short in the end. Hauser led the Hawks with 17 points. Crichlow totaled nine points on the afternoon. Manhattanville had three players finish the contest in double figures; Fiefie fell one rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, senior forward Mike Benzinger (Sonoma, CA) totaled a team-high 16 points, while freshman forward Justin Morris (West Haven, CT) contributed 10 points.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will host SUNY IT on Tuesday, January 10 at 8:00 pm.
