SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Moves to 3-0 with Win

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon, the SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team defeated Manhattanville 8-1. The Hawks won their third straight dual match competition to improve to 3-0 on the year.

SUNY New Paltz (3-0) took all but one singles match against the Valiants. At number one singles sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) dropped the first set 2-6 before battling back against senior Julia Dobler (Spokane, WA) to win the second and third 6-1, 7-6 respectively. At number two singles senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) beat junior Laura McDowell (Granby, MA) 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) remained undefeated in her colligate career with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in number three singles, over sophomore Antoinette Lynch (Queens, NY). Sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) shutout senior Cecille Rojo (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles. Freshman Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) won in her Hawk debut with a 6-3, 6-1 win in number five singles. Manhattanville (1-1) recorded their only point of the afternoon in number six singles. Freshman Rebecca Jenny (Brookfield, CT) defeated freshman Bianca Farrentelli (Lido Beach, NY) 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.

The Hawks swept doubles play. Yamakawa and freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) defeated Dobler and McDowell 8-2. Fenton and Larson won 8-1 over Jenny and Rojo in the second doubles flight. Freshman sisters, Ashley and Lindsay Trifeletti (Mamaroneck, NY) remained undefeated in 2005 with an 8-3 victory at number three doubles.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will try to extend their winning streak to four tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, as they host their first conference match against Brockport.
