Hawks Fall Twice at Union

SCHENECTADY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team, playing the second of three consecutive doubleheaders in three days, was swept by Union College this afternoon at Buck Ewing Field. The Hawks fell 4-2 in the opener and lost game two 7-0.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one on sacrifice fly by Dean Glanzman, scoring Justin Buonamano. Trevor Bailey and SUNY New Paltz (7-12) carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth before Union touched up Bailey for three runs. The Dutchmen added another run in the fifth to build a 4-1 lead.

SUNY New Paltz drew to within two runs in the top of the sixth when William Kelts scored on an error with two out in the inning.

The Hawks, who managed just three hits off Union (4-9) starter Frank Arcuri, were not able to pull any closer.

Bailey pitched six innings and gave up seven hits. He surrendered three earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

In game two, Ben McGuire scattered eight hits to help lead the Dutchmen to the win. John DeKams and Matt Zajdel each had two hits for SUNY New Paltz. Neal Rosengren started and went the distance. He allowed seven hits, five earned runs, walked three and struck out one.
