SUNY New Paltz Splits With SUNYIT

UTICA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team earned a split against conference rival SUNYIT this afternoon. The Hawks took the opener 5-4 and fell 8-6 in the second game.

In game one, junior Vinny McAdams lifted a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth that scored sophomore John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) to put SUNY New Paltz (7-10, 1-3) in front 5-3.

The run proved to be an important one as SUNYIT battled back with a run in the ninth to make it a 5-4 game. Junior Joe Gugliotta pitched eight in a third innings to improve his record to 4-0. DeKams, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI, recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

In game two, SUNYIT scored seven runs off sophomore Justin Buonomano (Royersford, PA). Freshman Michael Virga (Farmingville, NY) pitched the final four and two thirds, allowed one run and struck out seven.

Trailing 8-3 in the top of the ninth, the Hawks pushed home three runs to make interesting before the Wildcats held on for the win.
