Hawks Fall To SUNYAC Co-Leader Oswego

NEW PALTZ, NY — Freshman forward Sarah Lombard (Saratoga Springs, NY) scored 16 points off the bench and was one of four Lakers in double figures in a 79-58 win over SUNY New Paltz this evening.

Lombard nailed 8-of-9 shots from the field and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Oswego to its fifth consecutive win. The Lakers, who began the night tied with Brockport for the top-spot in the SUNYAC, are now 18-2 overall and 11-2 in SUNYAC play.

Oswego turned a 19-12 lead with 11 minutes left the first half into a 30-14 advantage at the 6:20 mark. Senior forward Kristin Sterling (Oneida, NY) and sophomore guard Kelly Mraz (Johnstown, NY) helped key the Lakers’ run by combining for nine of Oswego’s 11 points during that four-minute surge. The Lakers maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the half and held a 42-24 advantage at the break.

Sterling finished with 11 points and Mraz added 10. Sophomore guard Lacey Kimpland (Fulton, NY) was also in double figures for the Lakers and finished with 10 points.

SUNY New Paltz sophomore guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) led all scorers with 18 points. Senior guard Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) finished with 15 points and moved into third place on the Hawks’ all-time scoring list. She surpassed the 900-point mark as well and pushed her career-scoring total to 907 points.

Senior forward Tarah Norris (Port Jervis, NY) scored a season-high 12 points for SUNY New Paltz (10-11, 4-8).
