FREDONIA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team lost 60-56 to conference rival Fredonia this evening.
Freshman Amber Sohns (Delhi, NY) scored with :41 seconds remaining on the clock to bring the Hawks (2-3, 1-1) within two. Sophomore Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) stole the ball on the following Blue Devils’ (4-1, 2-0) possession, but a late turnover and two insurance free throws by sophomore Jill Ratchuk (Buffalo, NY) sealed the Hawks’ fate. Kelty finished with 16 points.
The Hawks trailed by as many as 14 points in the opening period. Down 33-20 at half, the Hawks were resilient and battled back. Sophomore Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) helped to close the gap with 14 second-half points, but the Blue Devils were able to hold off the Hawks’ strong finish. Glazewski would finish with 16 points on the night.
