LONG ISLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams continued to swim well at the second day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, ECAC, Championships finishing the morning session with two first place finishers.
Senior Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY) took the championship in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.47. Sophomores Katie Rapp (Liverpool, NY), Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) and Claire Gerard (Stony Point, NY) placed sixth (2:17.06), seventh (2:17.95), and 16th (2:24.02), respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke as well.
Junior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) swam her way to a championship in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.25. Masterson also combined with Lindner, Delia and sophomore Nevine Roberts (Pound Ridge, NY) to give SUNY New Paltz a third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:11.77). Senior Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) grabbed a fourth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.32), freshman Regina Davide (Ossining, NY) finished in 14th (2:44.45). In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Liz Ruggiero (Congers, NY) placed 11th (2:20.89).
The men’s top finisher came in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a seventh place finish. Senior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), freshman John Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY), senior Ben Yousey (Beaverfalls, NY), and senior Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) finished with a time of 7:34.83. In the 200-yard backstroke, Yeung finished 14th with a time of 2:05.15.
Sophomore Danny Lo (Toms River, NY) captured a ninth place finish in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:18.50), Fleckenstein placed 13th (2:21.25). Fleckenstein also recorded the top placement for the Hawks in the 100-yard freestyle (52.39), in 38th place.
The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams will compete in the ECAC Championships for the duration of this weekend (Dec. 3-Dec. 5). Complete results for this weekend’s meet can be viewed at the following two websites:
