SUNY New Paltz Swimming Teams Compete at ECAC Championships

LONG ISLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams both swam in the first day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, ECAC, Championships today.

Senior Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY), senior Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY), sophomore Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) and junior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) swam to a second place finish in the women’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.86. The women’s B relay team, consisting of sophomore Katie Rapp (Liverpool, NY), sophomore Christina Magill (Poughquag, NY), freshman Liz Ruggiero (Congers, NY) and sophomore Ashley Williamson (Holland Patent, NY), failed to earn the Hawks points, but finished with a solid time of 1:58.34.

The women did, however, have two girls finish in the points for the 1650-yard freestyle. Delia grabbed a second place finish (18:17.96) and sophomore teammate Nevine Roberts (Pound Ridge, NY) placed 11th (19:19.62).

The men finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), freshman Nick Johnson (Highland Mills, NY), sophomore Chris Chaplin (Hempstead, NY) and sophomore Craig Gottesman (Oceanside, NY) swam for a time of 1:40.76. The B relay team, senior Joe Davidson (Turnersville, NY), sophomore Danny Lo (Toms River, NY), junior Jeff Melton (Acworth, GA) and senior Ben Yousey (Beaverfalls, NY), followed close behind with a time of 1:45.04.

The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams will compete in the ECAC Championships for the duration of this weekend (Dec. 3-Dec. 5). Complete results for this weekend’s meet can be viewed at the following two websites:
