SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Drops 7-1 to Vassar

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team lost to Vassar 7-1 this afternoon.

In number one singles freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) lost to sophomore Debbie Sharnak (East Brunswick, NJ) 6-0, 6-2. Senior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) lost to sophomore Kelly Graham (Kennebunk, ME) 6-0, 6-3 in number two singles. In the third flight, freshman Alexandra Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) tied sophomore Anna Will (Yardley, PA) 4-6, 6-2. The third game was called due to darkness. In number four singles, junior Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) lost to freshman Elysa Kliman (Montreal, QC) 6-1, 6-3. In number five singles, sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) fell to freshman Kelly Barnett (Toronto, ON) 6-1, 6-3. Senior Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY) fell to senior Robin Chu (Woodside, NY) 6-3, 6-0 in number six singles.

The Hawks (7-2) were able to steal one from the Brewers (4-1) in doubles. In number two doubles Goldberg and Larson defeated Will and freshman Courtney Burks (Decorah, IA) 9-8. Yamakawa and Farrell lost to Sharnak and Graham 8-4, in number one singles; Sharnak and Graham took the doubles championship at the ITA Tournament at William Smith earlier this month. In number three doubles, Goldstein and junior Laura Thomas (Hyde Park, NY) fell 8-2 to Chu and senior Amber Gaskins (Philadelphia, PA).
