NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz has been selected to host Fulbright Visiting Scholar Xiangrong Wang, from the Department of Environmental Sciences at Fudan University, Shanghi, China, for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Wang, who is sponsored jointly by SUNY New Paltz and Bard College for the academic year, will be teaching a course at New Paltz titled “Environmental Studies, Planning and Management in China” during the spring semester, 2005.
Currently, Wang is a professor of Urban Ecology and Environmental Planning at Fudan University, where he is also the director of the Research Centre for Urban Eco-Planning and Design and deputy director of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Liverpool, UK, in the Department of Civic Design, and an honor professor in the Research Center of Ecological Environment at the Academy of China.
Wang earned his Ph.D. in environmental ecology from East China Normal University, Shanghai, and his undergraduate degree in agronomy from Southwest Science and Technology University, Mianyang, Peoples Republic of China.
Wang is one of approximately 800 foreign faculty and professionals the Fulbright Scholar Program will bring to the U.S. to teach and do research. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program’s purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
