SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Strikes Early in 2-1 Victory

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team put their first two shots in the net to beat SUNY IT 2-1 this afternoon.

The Hawks (8-9, 6-3) got the ball rolling early and registered their first goal at the one-minute mark. Senior midfielder Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY) netted the first Hawk’s goal off two pinpoint passes from sophomore midfielder Daniel Libardi (Canaan, NY) and junior defenseman Ryan Shanks (Sound Beach, NY). One minute later sophomore forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) found sophomore forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) who deposited the Hawk’s second shot past sophomore goalie Andy Korhun (Shaker High) to give the Hawks an early 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats (2-12, 0-9) continued to fight despite the two-goal deficit and were able to cut into the Hawks’ lead. With twelve minutes remaining in the first half senior forward Damir Krdzic (Binghamton, NY) beat the Hawk defense down field and scored a breakaway goal on sophomore goalie Jake Lammers (Highland, NY) to make it a 2-1 game going into halftime.

SUNY New Paltz dictated most of the second half play and rifled off fourteen shots. Korhun held the Hawk attack at bay with seven second-half saves and ten for the game.
