SUNY New Paltz and Cortland Battle to 0-0 in 2OT Tie

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team battled Cortland to a 0-0 tie in double overtime.

Through four scoreless periods, SUNY New Paltz (5-5-3, 3-2-2) senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) continued her recent strong play in net. Fenton recorded 12 saves on 20 Red Dragon (6-4-2, 5-0-1) shots and extended her shutout streak to a total of 338 minutes and 48 seconds.

With time running out in the second overtime period, sophomore forward Andrea Marino (Utica, NY) placed a shot on goal which deflected off freshman defender Kelly Amendola (Brewster, NY) and trickled off the post and out of play to keep the game scoreless.

Senior goalie Christa Windhorst (Lancaster, NY) also recorded a shutout as well, and made four saves of her own.

Cortland maintained possession of the ball for most of the game, out shooting SUNY New Paltz 7-1 in the first half and 20-8 for the game. Cortland, however, won the shootout 3-2 and earned a playoff tie-breaker against the Hawks if need be.

The Hawks will host conference rival Oswego tomorrow, Oct. 9, at 1:00 p.m.
