Hawks Win at Cortland

CORTLAND, NY — Sophomore midfielder Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) broke up a tie game with a goal in the 64th minute to give SUNY New Paltz a 3-2 league victory at Cortland this afternoon.

Fabian’s goal, his second of the season, was headed into the net following a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Dan Libardi (Canaan, NY).

The Hawks (4-8, 4-3) started strong and built a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. Sophomore forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) got the scoring started when he fired a shot from 15-yards out that rolled inside the left post and into the net.

Seven minutes later, senior defenseman Bobby Monahan (Central Islip, NY) put a shot over the head of Cortland goalie Sean Trask to extend the lead to 2-0.

Cortland (6-7, 2-3) cut into the Hawks shortly before halftime when Matt Daum, who at one time was a member of the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team, scored his ninth goal of the year to send the Dragons into the intermission trailing by one.

Matt Shea then found the net in the 52nd minute to pull the Red Dragons even.

Monahan and Fabian each had a goal and an assist for the Hawks who have now won two straight. SUNY New Paltz also picked up its second straight win over Cortland.
