Hawks Record Several First Place Performances at Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams combined for eight first place finishes at the Oneonta State Invitational on Saturday.

For the men, junior Josh Moore (Woodburne, NY) dominated the throwing events with first place showings in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.

Moore’s 48-foot, seven-and-a-half-inch throw in the shot put was more than eight feet better than the second place effort turned in by Kyle Dresser of Oneonta. He claimed the discus with a throw of 130 feet, two inches and fired the hammer 146 feet and one inch to win that event as well.

Senior Adam Thyberg (Blue Point, NY) won the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 11 and three quarter inches. Senior John Zarella (Mahopac, NY) won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:13.03. Freshman Anthony Bryant (Norwich, NY) rounded out the top finishers for the men winning the 400-meter hurdles with a facility record time of 56.77.

The men’s team finished third with 67 points.

On the women’s side, freshman Alida van Almelo (Groton, NY) won the 1500-meter event with a time of 5:15.57. Sophomore Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) helped the Hawks sweep the steeplechase with a first place time of 12:19.95.

Senior Natasha Dudar (New Paltz, NY) was second in the long jump with a mark of 17-feet, one and a quarter inches. Sophomore Maria Troise (Manorville, NY) was second in the pole vault with an attempt of six-feet, 11 and three quarter inches.

The women’s squad finished the meet 88 points and came in fourth place.
