Hawks Suffer Doubleheader Softball Loss to Plattsburgh State

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team lost a doubleheader to conference rival Plattsburgh State this afternoon. The Cardinals raised their winning streak to six with a 5-0 win in game one and a 9-1 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Plattsburgh State senior Tracy Mitchell (London, Ont.) pitched seven innings, allowed two hits and struck out six to help lead the Cardinals to a 5-0 win. Junior first baseman April Barbour (South Gate, MI) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for Plattsburgh State.

Junior shortstop Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) and sophomore first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) each went 1-for-3 for the Hawks.

The Cardinals (15-13, 7-3) took advantage of five-Hawk errors in the second and third innings to build a 9-0 lead in the second game.

SUNY New Paltz scored in the third inning when senior left fielder Val Blackman (Castle Creek, NY) scored on a wild pitch. Blackman went 1-for-2 in the game. Schropfer was 1-for-3 at the plate.

SUNY New Paltz (4-20-1, 0-8) will host Potsdam in a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m.
