Germain Scores 17 Points in New Paltz Loss to Russell Sage

TROY, NY — Freshman Kelley Germain (Albany, NY) led New Paltz with a team-high 17 points and collected six rebounds in a 63-52 loss to Russell Sage College this afternoon.

The Hawks (6-14) played a strong first half as they trailed by just a single point, 22-21, at halftime. However, they weren’t able to overcome a fiesty Gators squad that outscored New Paltz by 10 points in the second half.

Russell Sage (3-13) had two players register a double-double. Connie Kaidas (Scotia, NY), who went 18-of-22 from the free throw line, paced the Gators with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Jamie Desso (Wynantskill, NY) scored 19 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.

Freshman Kerry Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) had a fine all-around game for New Paltz with 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Junior Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) had eight points, eight rebounds, and a game-high five steals.

New Paltz returns to the court on Saturday, February 14 when they hit the road to play SUNYAC foe Cortland. The tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
