NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz recently appointed Professor Michael Gayle as the new associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Gayle, a cognitive psychologist, came to New Paltz in 1993 teaching undergraduate and graduate levels in his field, as well as in experimental psychology. Gayle is a product of the SUNY system. His bachelor’s degree is from SUNY Purchase and his master’s and doctoral degrees are from SUNY Stony Brook.
“Gayle has been a member of the New Paltz community for more than a decade,” said Gerald Benjamin, the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. “During this time he has established an excellent record as a teacher, scholar and citizen of the university. Since 2001 he has provided effective leadership as chair of the Department of Psychology. I am delighted that Michael has agreed to serve the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the role of associate dean and look forward to working with him.”
The associate dean’s duties include administering the summer session, managing the appointment process for part-time faculty, managing the scheduling and offering of classes, and collaborating with department chairs and administrative offices to assure that students are served.
Gayle fills the vacancy created when associate dean Stacie Nunes returned full-time to the teaching faculty. Gayle is one of two associate deans in the school. He will serve with Dr. Lynn Spangler who was appointed in the spring of 2003.
