Men’s Volleyball Squad Drops Season Opener to St. Franics, PA

NEW PALTZ, NY – — In the season opener for both teams, the St. Franics, PA men’s volleyball team swept SUNY New Paltz 3-0 this evening at Elting Gymnasium.

The Red Flash were led by freshman outside hitter Jim Fazzini (Pittsburgh, PA) who had 12 kills, seven digs and a .563 hitting percentage in his collegiate debut.

Sophomore outside hitter Brandon Kelly (Greenfield, IN) added 11 kills for St. Francis, PA, who will travel to Springfield College to take on the two-time defending American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Molten Division III national champion Pride tomorrow afternoon.

SUNY New Paltz was led by sophomore outside hitter Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) who had 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Shawn Livingston (King’s Park, NY) had 17 assists for the Hawks who are coming off a 20-16 record a year ago. The Hawks went on to capture the ECAC North Championship and finshed the year ranked seventh in the final AVCA Division III Coaches Poll.

New Paltz (0-1) will travel to Vassar to take on the Brewers on Tuesday night (Jan. 21) at 7:00 p.m.
