Hawks Make it Two Straight With Win vs. Russell Sage

NEW PALTZ, NY – — Junior guard Maura McShane (East Rockaway, NY) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team to a 61-53 win over Russell Sage this afternoon at Elting Gym.

McShane, who also had seven rebounds, four assists and nine steals, ignited a 17-6 second half run with seven points in a span of two minutes to help the Hawks earn their second consecutive win. New Paltz, now 5-7, also surpassed last year’s win total of four (4-21) with the victory.

Freshman guard Colleen Kelly (Hyde Park, NY) scored all seven of her points in the second half and gave New Paltz it’s largest lead of the day, 48-27, with 9:50 remaining.

Russell Sage, playing its first game since Dec. 10, tried to chip away at the New Paltz lead and managed cut the deficit to 56-48 on a jumper by junior forward Lyndsey Iles (Littleton, NH) with 2:30 to play.

Iles had 12 points for the Gators who dropped to 4-4. Russell Sage was led by sophomore forward Nicole Dumont (Chateaugay, NY) who had 17 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward Silver Williams (Newburgh, NY) finished the game with 10 points and 14 rebounds for New Paltz.

The Hawks owned a 52-34 rebounding advantage against Russell Sage.
