Men and Women’s Swimming Falls to Geneseo

GENESEO, NY – — The SUNY New Paltz Swimming and Diving teams lost to Geneseo Wednesday afternoon to drop their season records to 2-3.

The women’s team fell to the 13-time defending SUNYAC Champion Knights 126-99. Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY) and Kathryn MacCrate (East Setauket, NY) highlighted the afternoon for the Hawks winning two events each. Lindner took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.78) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.38) and MacCrate was first in 1- meter diving (194.50) and 3-meter diving (184.25).

Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) and Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) also claimed top spots in their individual events. Masterson placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.55 seconds and Grempel won the 200 individual medley finishing the race in 2:22.23.

On the men’s side, the Hawks lost 122-98 to the Knights, who have won the last four SUNYAC titles.

Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Jon Sousa (Albany, NY), and Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:43.59 for the Hawks’ lone victory of the day.

Jon Sousa also placed second in the 200-yard butterfly and Kent Yeung was second in the 100-yard freestyle.

The women’s team will next be in action Jan. 18th at RPI before joining the men for a Feb. 1st meet at Cortland.
