Lavacca and Van Wyen Named Second Team All-SUNYAC

NEW PALTZ, NY – — SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer standouts Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) and Tim Van Wyen (Sayville, NY) were both named second team all-league by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)last night.

Lavacca, a junior forward, started all 19 games for the Hawks and led the team in scoring with 27 points on a team-best 12 goals and three assists. He earned all-conference recognition for the third time in his career. Lavacca was a second team member as a sophomore and an honorable mention selection as a freshman in 2000. In three years with the men’s soccer program at SUNY New Paltz he has accounted for 66 points (30 goals, 6 assists).

Van Wyen, a senior defenseman, was a second team all-league choice for the third straight year. He started all 19 games and registered career-highs in goals (3) and points (7). Van Wyen completed his four-year career with 13 points (4 goals, 5 assists)

The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team had a record of 5-13-1 this fall.
