Manhattanville Defeats New Paltz in NYSWCAA Field Hockey Tournament

PURCHASE, NY – — Freshman Ali Van Horn scored two goals to give top-seeded Manhattanville a 6-1 win over eighth-seeded New Paltz in a quarterfinal game in the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament this afternoon.

Despite eight first half penalty corners by the Hawks, Manhattanville (13-6)scored two goals in the first 27 minutes to earn their second win over New Paltz this season. The Valiants will now face fourth-seeded Elmira in a semifinal contest on Saturday.

Manhattanville extended their two-goal lead to 5-0 with three scores in an 11-minute span midway through the second half.

New Paltz, who completed its third varsity season with a record of 3-14, broke into the scoring column with 9:29 remaining in the game on a goal by freshman Katie Schoonmaker.

Erica Engstrom had 11 saves for the Hawks.
