NEW PALTZ – — Senior midfielder Maria Puccio (Malverne, NY) scored her second goal of the season in the 67th minute to give the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team a 1-0 conference win over Fredonia this afternoon.
Puccio’s shot from 15-yards out found the top right corner of the goal to give the Hawks their second straight win. SUNY New Paltz is now 6-8 overall and 3-3 in SUNYAC play.
The SUNY New Paltz defense held off a late charge by Fredonia to register its fifth shutout of the season. Sophomore goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made five saves including a diving stop to her right with four minutes to play to preserve the win.
Fredonia dropped to 5-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
