ELMIRA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team put up a valiant fight against the Soaring Eagles of Elmira put eventually fell 3- 2 in overtime.
After falling behind 1-0, Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY) tied the game for the Hawks with 15:58 remaining in the first half. Patricia Erikson (Massapequa Park, NY) picked up the assists on the play. Elmira took the lead again four a half minutes later to go into the locker room up one.
Erikson struck with 8:32 left on the clock to tie the game and force overtime only to have the Soaring Eagles get the game-winner at 10:13 of the first extra-session.
Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY) made nine saves for New Paltz (3-8).
