Men’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Cortland

NEW PALTZ — The men’s swimming and diving team defeated Cortland Saturday by a point total of 127-103 while the women were beaten by the Red Dragons 128-108.

The men’s 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Jay Sousa (Albany, NY), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Nate Haus (Binghamton, NY), and Mark Costello (Staten Island, NY) placed first with a time of 3:58.34. In individual events, Mark Otto (Sewell, NJ), Chris Farrell (Sparkill, NY), and Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) all were first in two separate events. Otto was at the top in the 100 and 200- yard freestyle, Farrell was first in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle, and Yeung took the 200 individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. Sousa also collected a top time in the 100-yard backstroke.

On the women’s side, Mallory Grempel was the lone swimmer to place first. Grempel finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.94. The women’s 400-yard freestyle relay team finished first in their race with a time of 3:58.33. The team consisted of Jaime Parrotte (Johnson City, NY), Jacquie Edelman (Jamaica, NY), Andrea Ditter (New Paltz, NY), and Jessica Armstrong (Wappingers Falls, NY).

Swimming and diving will now prepare for the upcoming SUNYAC Championships in two weeks in Buffalo, NY.
