Hawk Swimmers Place Fourth At Kumpf Men’s Invite

TROY — The SUNY New Paltz Men’s Swimming and Diving team finished fourth, ahead of SUNYAC rival Cortland, in Saturday’s Rensselaer Kumpf Invitational at Robison Pool.

Jeff Galaise (200-yard Individual Medley) and Mark Otto (1000-yard Freestyle) both had second-place finishes, while Jon Amoia finished fourth in the 200-yard Breaststroke, and the Hawks also added four fifth-place finishes to amass 274 points, 51 more than Cortland (223) in fifth place. Ithaca (668 points) won the 2001 team championship, and Division II Le Moyne (424) also finished ahead of the host Red Hawks (362), while Clarkson (154) and Vassar (120) also scored.

New Paltz returns home to Elting Natatorium to host Manhattanville for a men’s and women’s dual meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night. The women’s version of the Rensselaer Kumpf Invitational occurs next Saturday at noon.
